Free online word frequency counter
This word frequency counter analyses any text and shows exactly how often each word appears, ranked from most to least common. It's a fast way to check keyword density, spot words you overuse, and get a feel for the vocabulary of an article, essay, or transcript. As you type or paste, the ranked table, totals, and percentages update instantly — nothing is ever uploaded.
How to count word frequency
- Type directly into the box, or paste text you've copied from elsewhere.
- Leave Ignore case on to count Word and word together, or turn it off to keep them separate.
- Enable Ignore common stop words to hide filler words like "the" and "and".
- Raise the Minimum word length to skip very short words.
- Read the ranked table, then click Copy as CSV to export the results.
Why word frequency matters
Writers and SEOs use frequency analysis to keep content focused and avoid keyword stuffing, while students and researchers use it to summarise long documents at a glance. Because the most-used words often reveal a text's main themes, a frequency list is a quick, honest snapshot of what a piece is really about.
